Ancho chili powder is also known as Ancho Chile. Ancho is dried and roasted Poblano chilli peppers. They have a mild to moderate heat, with an earthy, sweet, fruity, smokey flavor similar to a raisin.
Ancho chilli powder is used in Mexican dishes, as well as soups, sauces, marinades, stews and casseroles.
The Scoville Heat Unit for Ancho chilli powder is 1,000-1,500.
